Cyrus Smith: "The call (to artists) was for art deco. I did my research. I went to the
library and did an extensive amount of research on art deco itself, to try to make my
design fit that. My design has art deco elements but it's also cheeky. It's these swipes or
swatches of art deco designs and they're being painted on, refurbishing the surfaces,
which I think is a metaphor of what they're trying to do on Graham, making things new.
The last grey/purple swipe of paint is my comment on how I see certain city groups'
stance on graffiti removal- how they're painting over life and vibrant colours with the
dull grey. I got to do a little interview for Shaw Cable on this piece."
