Occupant: Home Street Playground

District: West End

Neighbourhood: Daniel McIntyre

Artist(s): Michel Saint Hilaire, Mandy van Leeuwen

Year: 2008

Sponsors: Neighbourhoods Alive! (Manitoba), West End BIZ, Take Pride Winnipeg!

Michel St. Hilaire: "It was a concept for a playground- that's where it all started. So the colours are very vibrant and very playful."

Mandy van Leeuwen: "It's about dreams. We started out with seeing the potential of a young girl and her point of view of the world."

Michel: "She's dreaming of her future and she's looking at all of the potential in her life and where she can go and what is out there. We're showing cities and places in her imagination- New York, Spain, and Asia. The scenery is showing flavours of different parts of the world."

Mandy: "The best part of this was the feedback from the neighbourhood."

Michel: "The boy is in silhouette as contrast to the girl. It was also just imaginary thought- very dreamy; we were just having fun with it. The idea of him floating around on balls was like thinking of what kids think about and maybe what they would like to do- maybe when they see a video game- something that they dream about."

"The houses are real West End houses- this is almost the exact strip along Maryland between Sargent and Wellington."
